Position Overview

The Structural Engineer II is instrumental in all phases of a project including concept generation, detailed structural design, construction administration, and project closeout. Additionally, they are responsible for field observation of existing structures and coordination with other project disciplines. They will work closely with project teams to ensure completion of project deliverables within the specified timeframe. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in developing structural construction designs; possess the ability to develop relationships and communicate with others; and work closely and collaboratively with other project disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, site civil engineering, and architecture .

Responsibilities

  • Provide structural engineering support on projects of all sizes, including development or modification of structural systems and overseeing work of the BIM team.
  • Assist in the development of specifications, structural designs, cost estimates, structural system selection, construction administration, and/or project closeout for multiple projects, simultaneously.
  • Represent the company at design and construction meetings.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to junior-level engineers, designers, and BIM staff.
  • Provide construction administration services, including review of submittals, response to Requests For Information/Deviation, review of materials test reports, performance of construction observation site visits, preparation of reports from observations during site visits, and attendance at meetings during primary structural phase of construction.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to observe and evaluate project deliverables.
  • Stay up to date on engineering design practices, codes, and environments.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • 2+ years’ experience in analyzing, designing, and planning structural engineering systems in commercial buildings.
  • Engineering Intern (EI) or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Familiarity with model building codes, such as the International Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318-14, and/or AISC 360.
  • Proficient in preparing technical documents utilizing discipline specific software (i.e., Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
  • Proficient in structural engineering design software (i.e. RAM Structural System, RAMbElements, TEDDs, etc.). Proficiency in similar software packages may be acceptable.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with others and effectively work and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and architectural systems and how structural systems support their function.
  • Understanding of structural engineering principles and construction practices and methods.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills; able to analyze and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work with some supervision and guidance, exercising discretion and independent judgment, as required.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, with occasional overnight travel.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must have reliable transportation to conduct client site visits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering in either Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering.
  • 1+ years of experience designing, detailing, and observing the construction of structures in the industrial, manufacturing, life sciences, and/or biopharma industries or similar fields.

Compensation

Compensation for this position will be as a salaried, exempt employee. In addition to the base salary, the compensation for this position includes Paid Time Off, available medical/dental/vision insurance, retirement contributions (employee- plus employer-contributions), job- and position- related training, and bonuses (as awarded and/or available).

Work Location

The primary expectation for AnchorPoint employees is to be in-office when not at a project site or similar location. In-office attendance fosters an increased level of communication, coordination, learning/training opportunities, and team building that working primarily remotely cannot recreate. Remote work is available to all employees, in accordance with Company policies.
